ICY HERBS is an innovative South African company. We grow widely exported and locally distributed herbs which are harvested and instantly cryogenically frozen to produce “Freshly Frozen Herbs”. We are unique in offering you fresh herbs which you “keep frozen, use frozen”, ensuring they are readily available all year round.

Company Background

ICY HERBS cc was founded in 2002 and is situated in Clocolan in the Free State, South Africa. It was established by Flip and Riana Minnaar (Essential Oil Producers) and Mundus and Hugo Joubert (Vegetable growers and packers). Highland Essential Oils, the essential oil business of the Minnaar's, was encouraged by a European Company to cut off the prime from their essential oil herb crop,(IQF) freeze it and export it in bulk to Europe.

There it was packed in small packages and sold to the consumer. After investigation and several visits to Europe it was decided to go into a joint venture with their neighbours (Jouberts) and start a freezing plant. The different herbs are grown on the two adjacent farms, harvested and transported to the factory. During 2004 ICY HERBS decided to sell the product on the South African market so that the consumer can benefit from using frozen herbs. ICY HERBS products are now available in retail stores since July 2005.
